Hostgator logoI would never recommend a web site hosting service if I did not use it myself, and I am happy to tell you that Hostgator hosts many of my own sites, including this one. I have found that Hostgator provide me with the best combination of cheap prices, features, reliability and support that I have been able to find. Hostgator are a huge American based hosting company, and they host more than one million domains.

I have been through a number of web hosts in my time online, and Hostgator for me is the only host that has been continuously reliable.

What's so good about Hostgator then?

Hostgator allows you to host an unlimited number of domains for just $7.95 per month. That's about £4 at the current exchange rates. There are no setup fees, a 99.9% uptime guarantee. 600 GB space for your websites and 6,000 GB of bandwidth per month.

The hosting includes CGI, PHP 5, RoR, Perl, MySQL, SSH, SSL and IMAP and POP mail services. Hostgator also used cPanel hosting, which means that you can install many programs and content management systems with a few clicks - eg Wordpress* (see below) is very easy to install with the cPanel interface.

If you have not created a website before, Hostgator provides a Site Builder. You can choose from more than 4,500 templates to build your site in a few minutes.

Hostgator will also help you move from another host, and to this end, they will offer you free domain transfers, free file transfers, free database transfers and free script transfers.

There are other options for hosting if you only need to host one site, require more bandwidth, webspace or want a reseller package. All web hosting is currently Linux, although there will be Windows Web Hosting shortly.

You can also get Linux and Windows dedicated servers if you have a need of the resources that only a dedicated server can provide. Dedicated servers are only usually needed by big businesses or those who require the highest level of security.
