Amazon's in house affiliate program, or as they call it, Associates, was launched in 1996 . It enables you to link to products sold by or through Amazon and get commission, usually at around 5% but sometimes higher, on whatever is sold. Many large websites promote Amazon products including comparison shopping sites such as Pricerunner.

Amazon provide you with specially formatted links which are tracked, so that they know if a sale made orginated from a link on your site. Payments are made monthly, the minimum payment amount is £10. If you don't make this minimum payment in a month, the money is rolled over each month until the minimum is met.
Linking Options
Once you are a member of Amazon Associates, you will be able to access Associates Central, where you can build links and view traffic and earnings reports.
There are a huge number of ways to link from your site to Amazon. They offer a number of "widgets" with differing functionality, including MP3 Clips Widget (for previewing music), Your Video Widget, where you can add product links to videos already on your website, slideshows, product previews, text links, contextual links and more.
You can also link directly to any page of Amazon that you choose, link to search results, individual products or recommend products to your visitors.
The new aStore technology allows you, without any programming skills whatsoever, to create your own online webstore that you can either link to from your own website, or embed within your website. It's a great way to feature amazon products in a dedicated shopping area, and even offer a shopping cart. There is no charge to affiliates for using this service.
Is the company UK based or international?
Amazon UK itself is clearly targetting the UK market. However, it appears to be based in Luxembourg. The overall Amazon brand is international, and has sites targetting the US, Germany, France, Canada and Japan. Payment to UK affiliates is made in £ sterling via gift certificate, cheque or BACS (your choice) once a month, once your balance has reached the minimum payment level of £10, or £50 for a cheque .
